Morningstar Mission was the big winner at last week’s meeting of the 100 Women Who Care Lennox and Addington.

The Mission, which helps provide hot meals to the less fortunate, was voted as the next organization to receive a donation from the 100 Women Who Care members at last Tuesday’s meeting.

“Our main purpose is food provisions,” said Morningstar Mission board member Diane Posterski, who successfully campaigned for her organization at the meeting. “There’s a lot of budget on groceries. Feeding 8,000 to 10,000 meals a year, we go through grocery bills.”

The exact number the group will receive is still yet to be decided, but it’s expected to be about $14,000.

“We’re really looking forward to buying a fridge and freezer unit so that we can be really efficient with how we store food and we can be more efficient in how we use it and give it away,” said Posterski. “Also we can make more dining room space so we can accommodate more people.”

They also host hot meals every Tuesday and Thursday while providing take home baskets as well for those in need.

Morningstar Mission will be the 10th organization to receive funding from the local chapter 100 Women Who Care, which has given out over $100,000 to local charities. Each meeting consists of a draw of three organizations and allows for a member from each drawn charity a chance to speak a little about their cause. The members of the group will then vote for one of those three to decide who will receive a donation, which comes from members of the group.

Since its inception the L&A 100 Women Who Care has grown in popularity, leading to a bit of a misnomer. They are actually now made up of over 270 members.
