Live at the Museum will go ‘green’ in its return from summer hiatus on Sept. 27 as they welcome Irish Roots for a 7:30 p.m. for a musical performance at the Lennox and Addington County Museum and Archives.

The trio includes Brent Schneider (bodhran, bass, guitar, vocals), Mary Kennedy (fiddle, mandolin, vocals) and Paul Gillespie (guitar, vocals), playing traditional tunes and songs from the 1600-1700s.

This won’t be the first time Irish Roots has played the museum and they were well-received in their previous visit. This time around however they’ve tailored the performance to include more of what they feel the audience will want to hear.

“We were in Napanee about a year and a half ago at the museum and the feedback we got that time was people really came for the Irish music,” said Gillespie. “We did a show that kind of covered a bit of everything last time. The feed back I got when I asked who was here for the Irish music, most everybody put up their hand.”

Irish music will be at the forefront, but Gillespie says they will stil mix in some Scottish and Canadian east coast songs as well.

A museum makes for the perfect setting for the Celtic group, as they aim to preserve the history of the music of their ancestors.

“This group was formed with the idea of promoting traditional Irish music,” said Gillespie.

He says the group will offer a bit of a history lesson on some of the songs they perform and most will be familiar tunes.

“We like audience involvement so we’ll sing a number of those old Irish songs like I’ll Tell Me Ma and Black Velvet Band,” aid Gillespie. “People will know it and if they want to sing along they can.”

Dancing is also encouraged as well, should the audience be in the spirit.

Tickets for the show are $3 and will be sold at the door. Live at the Museum is a monthly program hosted by Lennox and Addington County and will feature live acts from a wide assortment of genres playing intimate settings.
