U17 Express bats rolling in Saskatoon as Napanee off to 2-0 start at Canadians

Napanee’s U17 Express boys are off to a hot start at the U17 Canadian Boys Fast Pitch Championships in Saskatoon, picking up a pair of wins to begin the round robin.

Wednesday afternoon they opened the tournament with a 7-0 win over Team New Brunswick.

Napanee scored one in the first and then added four more in the second before closing out the win with two in the sixth.

Connor Hopper drove in a pair while Gavin Brooks and Jack Madden each drove in one. Brandon Barker pitched the complete game shutout, striking out 11.

Napanee kept it rolling in their second game of the day, topping the host Saskatoon Selects 11-1.

Ty Kemp drove in three runs while Luke Paul and Barker each drove in a pair.

Brooks got the start, tossing five innings while striking out nine. The game was called after five innings via the mercy rule. Napanee pounded out 15 hits in those five innings, scoring in every frame save for the second.

Napanee will face the Price Albert Astros this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Later this evening they’ll face the Chatsworth Longhorns at 8:30 p.m.
