Napanee’s U23 Express women suffered a heart-breaking 3-2 loss Wednesday evening to drop to 0-2 at Canadians in Saskatoon.
Napanee scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and led 2-0 through five. The wheels came off in the sixth however as the Saskatoon Shock rallied for three runs to take the lead and Napanee was unable to respond in their final at bat.
Megan Morrow pitched four innings for Napanee, striking out four. Jordanna Hrtley pitched two innings, striking out one. Maddy Cronkwright had two of Napanee’s five hits in the game.
Napanee opened the tournament with an 8-0 loss to Saskatoon’s Carnduff Southeast Steelers.
Saskatoon struck for three in the first and added five more in the second while holding Napanee to just one hit over five innings. Cronkwright had the lone hit to break up the no-hitter.
Napanee will look to get back on track this afternoon when they face the Saskatoon Sabres for a 1 p.m. start. At 4 p.m. they’ll take on the Saskatoon Synergy.
