A report detailing how Greater Napanee will recognize special events is expected to come before council in February.

Town staff has been tasked with compiling a report at the request of councillor John McCormack, who made a notice of motion calling for the town to institute a policy of recognizing historical events and special interests groups or similar requests by painting a crosswalk in town.

Town staff will now examine which locations would be appropriate for this type of recognition, whether the recognition should be town initiated or come from a community group, costs involved, specific standards, seasonal restrictions and alternative methods of recognition, if applicable.

There could be walls painted instead of sidewalks,” said McCormack. “I’m just hoping that the town could be proactive and a little avant-garde in coming up with some way of recognizing causes in a unique or more visual way.”

McCormack moved that council note and receive the report with a full report to come back to council at their first meeting in February.
