Tire deflation device used to stop stolen vehicle on Hwy 401

On March 12 at approximately 7 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle travelling westbound on Hwy 401.

An officer with the South Frontenac Detachment of the OPP observed the suspect vehicle and communicated with officers of the L&A County Detachment, who were able to set up on the highway and deploy a tire deflation device to stop the suspect vehicle. The two occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and were quickly apprehended by officers.

As the result of an investigation, L&A County OPP arrested and charged a 40-year-old of Montreal and a 19-year-old of Lachine, Que., with:

·        Theft of motor vehicle

·        Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

·        Possession for the purpose of distributing

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking

The 19-year-old is further charged with two counts of failure to comply with release order and possession of an identity document.

Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
