Stars teams shine in minor hockey season openers

The Napanee Stars’ season began last weekend with solid wins by most teams.

The Bantam Exit Realty Acceleration Bantam Stars dominated Douro 12-2 on Saturday on the Goodyear ice. Zach Slaven had a season’s worth of goals scoring six times. Marshall Maracle tallied four, and Jack Osborne and Carter McKee had singles. Sunday, they shut out Brighton 3-0 to run their winning streak to five.

-The Napanee Novice BB’s had an impressive start with an 11-1 win over Brighton. They led from the start with a balanced attack, and solid skating and passing skills. Jacob Lyons had a hat trick while Mason Whalen netted two.

-The Atom Joyce’s Meats & Deli BB Stars were 8-1 winners over the Loyalist Jets Sunday afternoon. Matthew Airhart, Cohen Cutler and Colton Lockridge led the way with a pair of goals each while Wyatt Albright and Drew Osborne had singles.

-Meanwhile, the Atom AE Stars fell 7-2 to Lakefield Sunday to begin their season. Wesley Davey and William Babcock made it to the scoresheet for the locals.

-The Napanee Peewee BBs got a solid performance from all members as they  defeated Brighton 3-1. Tie Wood, Jayden Holden and Dylan put them in the lead, before their opponents got a late tally. The defence and their penalty killers did an effective job when called upon, as well. Noah Brown was solid between the posts. Saturday in Madoc they shut out their Centre Hastings’ hosts 9-0 with help from goalie Aidan Difazio.

-The Napanee Midget BBs hosted a mini-tournament on Saturday, playing solid hockey. They defeated North Frontenac 2-1 as Mason Barker scored twice. Campbellford tied North Frontenac 2-2, before Napanee outscored Campbellford 4-2. Ryan Kirkpatrick netted two while Oron Green, and Cal DuChene each contributed, too, in the final game.
