Police warn of suspicious male approaching youths in Amherstview

On June 11, 2018 at approximately 5:32 p.m. the Loyalist OPP responded to a report of a suspicious male in the town of Amherstview. A male driver approached a 12 year old girl on Pratt St. in Amherstview and asked if she wanted candy. The young girl ran away and police were called.

The suspect is described as white male, mid 60s with a grey beard, wearing a hat and sunglasses.

The vehicle is described as an older model Dodge minivan silver or white in colour with several rust spots on the lower parts of the exterior.

The suspect has been observed driving on the wrong side of the road approaching youth pedestrians. In other instances he has offered rides to other youth, often using candy and similar items to lure children into his vehicle. Police are looking to Identify the male and his vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Napanee OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or should they wish to remain anonymous, they may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS), where they may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

-In other police news, the Napanee OPP are encouraging members of the public to report all stolen property. They have seen an increase in incidents of suspected stolen bicycles without victims to link them to.

Anyone who has had property stolen should contact the police detachment of jurisdiction by calling 1-888-310-1122 and report the crime.  Alternatively they can use the self reporting system online by entering www.opp.ca/reporting. This allows the general public can use the Self Reporting system to report”

Thefts under $5,000, mischief/damage to property under $5,000, mischief/damage to vehicle under $5,000, thefts from vehicles and lost/missing property (including license plates).

-Napanee OPP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a female suspected of stealing money from a victim’s purse at a local business on Center St in Napanee.

On May 30 the owner of the purse set it down to look at plants at the entrance of a local store. The suspected thief then used this opportunity to rummage through the purse and take an envelope containing cash.  The female suspect then entered the grocery store in Napanee and was caught on video surveillance taking the envelope from the purse.

The female is described as caucasian, approximately 5’5″ tall, in her 40s, wearing a pink shirt, dark pants or capris and sunglasses on her head with long hair in a ponytail. She was accompanied by a male in a blue shirt and beige shorts.
