Napanee’s Britt Benn scored a pair of tries to help lead Canada’s Women’s Sevens to a bronze medal finish last week at the HSBC Paris Sevens in France.
Benn’s second try of the weekend was a crucial one as it helped Canada secure a 26-24 over the US in the quarterfinals. Her try, the 49th in her World Series career, came early in the second half to give Canada a brief lead. After the US responded, Canada answered back and held on for the tight win as the US picked up another five points but sailed wide on the conversion attempt.
After falling 34-7 in the semifinals to New Zealand, the Canadians bounced back with a 17-10 win over the host France team to earn the bronze.
Benn also scored in the opener against Russia, a 31-5 win for Canada. They then topped Fiji 21-12 before losing to Australia 31-14 to close out Day 1.
The stop in Paris was the last of the Seven Series as the club will now prepare for the Rugby World Cup Sevens, which will take place in San Francisco next month. For the Sevens season, Canada placed fourth behind Australia, New Zealand and France.
