A 38-year-old woman, missing since January 9, 2024, in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, has been located deceased.
Divers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located Michelle Kunkel’s body on Feb. 10, under the ice in a waterway near the intersection of Highway 2 and York Road in Shannonville, in the area where she had last been seen.
While the investigation remains ongoing, there is no indication foul play was involved.
The OPP and Tyendinaga Police wish to thank everyone who assisted in the search efforts or provided any information.
