Officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP have recovered a stolen vehicle from the Salmon River thanks to the help of some alert citizens.
On Feb. 5, shortly before 3 p.m., officers from the L&A County OPP were dispatched to a vehicle that was found in the water at the Salmon River boat launch on Milltown Road by Highway 2. The alert citizens noticed some irregular marks on the shoreline and used their boat sonar and camera to discover the vehicle submerged in 16 feet of water approximately 80 feet from shore. Police attended and secured the scene until the next day when the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) attended. There was no one found in the vehicle. The vehicle was stolen from the Peel Region. The vehicle was towed from the water and transported for a forensic examination. No one has been charged and the investigation remains ongoing.

-Officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP have charged an impaired driver with multiple offences.
On Feb. 6, shortly after 6 p.m., officers from the L&A County OPP were dispatched to a disturbance on Green Street, in the Town of Deseronto. It was reported that a suspect male attended a residence, kicked the door in and proceeded to utter threats to multiple parties inside. The male left the residence and got into his vehicle, reversing into another vehicle, and continued to drive erratically away from the scene. Police located the male at his residence and placed him under arrest. The male resisted officers during the arrest. The male was transported back to the detachment for further testing.
As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged Lawrence Gilmour, age 44, of Kingston, with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Assault peace officer
- Resist peace officer
- Mischief – destroys or damages property
- Uttering threats – damage property – two counts
The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on a later date. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
