Peewee BB Crunch advance to provincial championships in Toronto

The Peewee BB Crunch have qualified for the provincial championships in Toronto, April 5-7.  They took their four point series against Kingston by beating them in Game 3 by a score of 4-1.  Keyra Herrington earned the win. The Crunch jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Hailey Lay, assisted by Brooklyn Alaver and Sienna Eberle. The Ice Wolves picked off a defense to defense pass early in the second period to take the puck in on a breakaway and tie the game. The Crunch took the lead just two minutes later on Lay’s second goal of the game,  assisted by Kristen Sutton. Claire McConnell and Alaina Holmes would add a goal each with two assists by Nicole Geenevasen.  The Crunch won Game 1, 2-0 and played to a scoreless tie in Game 2.

They have also moved on to the east division finals in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League.  They beat the Whitby Wolves, 2-0 on Saturday in Whitby.  Diana Wharton earned the shutout with two massive saves in the third period. Both goals were scored by Sutton with an assist by Hayley Maracle. The Crunch start the next series against Peterborough at the SPC on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

-The season is now over for the United Restaurant Atom B Crunch. They finished the playoff qualification round with losses to Cornwall, 1-0, and Glengarry, 5-1 on the weekend. The lone goal was scored by Brooklyn Prevost, assisted by Lucy Cork and Ryan DuChene. In spite of the losses this weekend, the girls played with heart and showing everyone how much they have learned this year.  A big thank you to the coaching staff or Troy Nugent, Joe Brant, Peg Jacklin and head coach, George Lazarakos.
