For three long years, Trinity United Church has been waiting for the opportunity to continue hosting events.

Now, they invite the public for an afternoon of music with the Nostalgic Sound Big Band on April 23 at 2:30 p.m. The concert was last scheduled when the pandemic began in 2020 and, unfortunately, has not been rescheduled until now.

Trinity Presents came about in 2018 as a result of Trinity United Church’s revision program.

Helen Richards, Chair of Trinity Presents spoke briefly with the Beaver to explain the impetus for the program and the details of the concert.

“We’re a team at Trinity United Church that was a result of the revision program the church did seven years ago. From that, various teams were created. The one I became part of was Trinity Presents,” explained Richards. “Our goal is to foster spiritual, social and intellectual growth for the enrichment of the congregation and extended community through the sharing of a series of concerts and health information sessions which showcase the talents and resources within the community.”

Richards noted the leader of the band, Ed Thompson, has somewhat of a following in the Kingston area.

“We hope this concert will draw a large following from this area as well as Kingston,” said Richards. “Thompson’s group is a ten piece swing band. They also do a bit of Jazz. There are three saxophones, three rhythm, and one vocalist.”

With the pandemic having shuttered the church both for the regular groups that pay to use the space and for community fundraising events, Trinity United-as with many churches-is feeling the effect of the pandemic.

“We hope to make a profit, as that will go to some of our outreach programs, such as Morningstar Mission as well as to the church itself,” stated Richards.

Richards added the afternoon promises to be both energetic and entertaining.

Tickets are available at Gray’s IDA, Marie’s Place and the Trinity United Church office. The office can be reached at: 613-354-3858.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and free for the under 12 set.
