Legion Branches across Hastings-Lennox and Addington were granted financial assistance from the federal government to help cope with challenges relating to the pandemic.

The nine branches across the H-LA riding included Napanee ($10,845), Deseronto ($10,845) and Tamworth ($8,992).

“I am a strong supporter of our local Legions and especially our veterans,” Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP Derek Sloan said in a release. “I realize that the funding request from the Royal Canada Legion was made several months ago and that the funding was quite urgently needed by our local Legions. This funding, while not the total amount requested, should hopefully help prevent some branches from having to close their doors. I pledge to work with all of our local Legions as we move into 2021 to ensure their future needs are met as well, especially in these challenging times.”

The local funding is part of a $14 million aid package that was distributed to Legions across Canada by the federal government to assist with operational items such as insurance, utilities, rent or mortgage, property tax, admiration costs and wages.
