Town of Greater Napanee prepares for Dec. 26 province-wide lockdown

The following is a press released issued by the Town of Greater Napanee:

On Monday, Dec. 21, the Government of Ontario announced a Province-wide lockdown for 28 days beginning on Saturday, Dec. 26.

All Ontarians are advised to stay home as much as possible, limiting travel outside the home for essential trips only. In response to the province-wide lockdown, the Town of Greater Napanee is taking the following actions to some of its municipal services, facilities and procedures to ensure the health and safety of everyone.

All municipal office buildings will be closed to the public from December 24, 2020 – Jan. 11, 2021. Town staff will remain available to correspond via telephone or email and courier deliveries will still be accepted. The public can find staff contact information on the “Contact Us” page of the Town’s website, www.greaternapanee.com.

The Town strongly encourages residents to make use of its online payment options for taxes, parking tickets and utility bills available on the Town’s website, when possible. The mail slot at the front door of Town Hall is also available for payment drop-off by cheque as a backup for online and bank payments. Strathcona Paper Centre Closed from Dec. 26, 2020 – Jan. 23, 2021: Effective Dec. 26, the Strathcona Paper Centre (SPC) will be closed until Jan. 23, 2021 in response to the Province-wide lockdown.

All recreational programming, hall rentals and ice bookings scheduled during this province-wide lockdown will be cancelled. Program registrants and clients with facility bookings affected by these cancellations will receive a credit on their account. The Town thanks its clients for their patience and cooperation while the credit processing is taking place. Waste Disposal Services (Curbside Collection, Bag Tags and Waste Disposal Site Hours): Please be advised of the following updates to the Town’s waste disposal services during the Province-wide lockdown:

– Curbside Collection Information: Curbside collection is available for all Greater Napanee residents. Curbside collection will run as usual during the Province-wide lockdown, with the exception of collection on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

– Waste Disposal Sites: The South Fredericksburgh and Roblin Waste Disposal Sites will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 26 for Boxing Day. Both Waste Disposal Sites will reopen on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021 and will remain open on Saturdays from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm during the Province-wide lockdown period with 2 changes: • Face coverings will be mandatory for all residents attending the waste disposal sites; and • exact change will be required for waste disposal fees.

– Garbage Bag Tags: Garbage bag tags are still required for all bags of garbage put out at the curbside during the provincewide lockdown period. The Town will make all efforts to ensure the convenience stores and other locations that sell garbage bag tags remained stocked during the municipal office closure period. Residents can find the list of locations within Greater Napanee that sell garbage bag tags on the Town’s website.

Council and Committee Meetings: There will be no formal Committee of Council meetings during this Province-wide lockdown. Regular meetings of Council will be held virtually and live streamed for the public to view via the Town’s YouTube channel, until further notice.

Additional Information Updates regarding Town Services: – Marriage Licences: There will be no marriage licences issued between Dec. 24 – Jan. 11, 2021; – 2021. Dog licences are available online, via phone or at various locations within Greater Napanee. Please see the Town’s website for a list of locations selling dog licences;

– There will be no building inspections for occupied buildings. Building inspections will be performed for new construction projects only during the Province-wide lockdown;
