Four-time World Champion and Canadian national champion figure skater Kurt Browning was at Napanee’s Strathcona Paper Centre on Thursday to lead a work shop hosted by the Kingston Skating Accademy. Young curlers had a chance to learn from the pros on Saturday as Scott Chadwick returned to his hometown Napanee District Curling Club to lead an on ice-session.
Chadwick, a member of John Epping’s curling rink, offered tips to the next generation of curlers on all aspects of the game.

Local Special Olympic athletes led the way during the 36th annual Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run, which kicked off from Napanee’s Giant Tiger and made its way through town towards Conservation Park on Friday. A group of Special Olympic athletes, OPP officers, GNFD firefighters, L&A County Paramedics and officers from Quinte Detention Centre also took part in the march which aimed to raise awareness for Lennox and Addington Special Olympics. History was re-told in Adolphustown’s UEL Heritage Park on Saturday, as sail boats glided onto its shores, re-enacting the original Loyalist Landing of 1784 as part of the Thunder on the Reach event. Shortly after their arrival, the historical re-enactors acted out the drawing of the lots, which saw the original Loyalists awarded land based on their military rank and family. Friday featured a simulated gunboat battle while Sunday saw a special flag raising ceremony at the UEL Cemetery and parade to St. Alban’s church.
