Music is a universal language, and now, patrons of the County of Lennox and Addington Libraries have a chance to avail themselves of that language as the Bath Library has begun a program lending out musical instruments.

The library is now home to a variety of guitars, drums, electric and acoustic instruments, wind instruments, and more.

Individuals may borrow the instruments for up to three weeks, with the possibility of extension so long as there aren’t any holds on that particular item. Any library card carrying resident throughout Lennox and Addington can request an instrument from the Bath Library and have it delivered to their local library.

The instruments were generously donated by The Joe Chithalen Memorial Musical Instrument Lending Library (Joe’s M.I.L.L.). The donation represents a significant opportunity for Lennox and Addington residents to explore a musical passion or simply learn about instruments that might not be available to them otherwise.

“Libraries are champions of arts and culture so we’re delighted to be part of supporting the creativity of our local residents by making musical instruments more accessible,” said Catherine Coles, manager of library services, County of Lennox and Addington. “Thanks to the generosity of Joe’s M.I.L.L. and  the community, we’re able to connect more people with opportunities to learn about music and perhaps develop a new passion.”

“This idea sprouted from conversations at Live Music Sundays. Community members expressed which instruments interested them and Joe’s M.I.L.L. was more than happy to accommodate,” stated Ben Evans of Joe’s M.I.L.L. “We win when we work together.”
