Museum invites guests to travel the world with culture-themed events all March

Lennox and Addington Museum and Archives is giving visitors a chance to travel the world this month, all without having to leave museum.

In conjunction with the museum’s latest traveling exhibit Refuge Canada from the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, The Museum of Lennox & Addington is inviting visitors to travel the world within its walls. Titled ‘March Around the World’events held all month long will introduce visitors to the people, places, and cultures from around the world that have made their home in Canada. The programs will celebrate the diversity that makes up Canada through art, dance, song, vivid storytelling, and lectures. Some examples include Irish storytelling, Israeli Dance, and music and drumming from Cameroon.

If visitors attend three or more March around the World events, they will win a small prize pack and be entered into a draw for a grand prize filled with travel themed items. Visitors are encouraged to pick up their special passport at the ,useum anytime in March and get it stamped at every event they attend for a chance to win their prize.

Below is a full programming schedule:

  •          March 4, 1 p.m. | Turkish Mosaic Lamp Workshop (My Mosaic Art) – (prices vary – $79.99 – $149.99)
  • March 11, 10:30 a.m. | Stories for Building Bridges (Visit with Author Rukhsana Khan) – $3
  • March 13, 10:30 a.m. | Irish Storytelling (Gaeltacht an Oileáin Úir) – free
  • March 13, 1 p.m. | Irish Song and Dance (Kingston Irish Folk Club) – free
  • March 15, 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. | Israeli Dance (Jackie Mills) – $3
  • March 17, 10 a.m., 1 p.m. | African Voyage (Njacko Backo) – $3
  • March 18, 2:30 p.m. | Lion Dance (Tallack Martial Arts) – free
  • March 21, 7 p.m. | Using Genealogy and DNA to Trace our Refugee Routes (Jim Sova) | $3

The bulk of activities will occur during the March Break from March 11 – 18. Event details such as pre-registration requirements and price vary for each event.
