Napanee District Curling Club’s 50th Anniversary Highland Lassie took place on Saturday, after being postponed for two seasons due to the pandemic.

Sixteen teams from Napanee, Tam Heather, Belleville, Dixie CC, Kingston, and a team of ladies from Hong Kong took part. To celebrate this amazing 50 years of curling each curler received a tartan swag bag, an anniversary pin, and a team photo. The winning team from Quinte/NDCC Gayle Johnson (defending champion) Barb Willemsen, Kelly Roantree, Patsy Mitchell thanked the kitchen, the bar and the ice volunteers for great meals, drinks and terrific ice to curl on. Second place went to the Tam Heather CC – Vicki Shaw, Leslie Gamble, Joanne Brennan and Pam Elliot who also thanked the kitchen for the delicious desserts served up with a piece of anniversary cake. Third place was a NDCC rinkHeather Ramshaw , Kim Dickson, Donna Leybourne and Christine Perry, who thanked all the visiting teams for helping us make this a huge success. All the 64 curlers thanked Deb Kowalik and her committee who spent a tireless day making sure everyone had a good time.

Over and above winner prizes there were door prizes, exceptional event prizes, and a silent auction so most curlers went home with a gift bag or two. The best-dressed prize went to Chris Downey, Nancy Wilkie, Angela Kurc and Cathy Howard who also won the prize for a ‘History of the Highland Lassie Quiz’ created by Heather Ramshaw.

Closing the presentations Deb Kowalik thanked her committee, all the many volunteers (who will all get a special mention on our web and in our newsletters), the generosity of her sponsors (who are being thanked in a separate article in The Napanee Beaver), and most of all the 64 curlers who made this – the 50 – a very successful day for the Napanee & District Curling Club.
