Multiple impaired charges laid in L&A County

The Lennox and Addington OPP charged four drivers in impaired driving related investigations.

On June 1, 2024, just before 1:00 a.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint on County Road 2 in Greater Napanee.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result, Angus Avent, age 42, of Napanee was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On June 1, 2024, just after 9 a.m., officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Thompson Hill Road in Stone Mills Township.

Officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle who was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result, Brianna Beattie, age 24, of Tamworth was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On June 1, 2024, just before 10:30 a.m., officers responded to a call for service to assist Emergency Medical Services with an unresponsive person by a vehicle on Connell Drive in Loyalist Township.

First responders were able to assist the individual, who was then spoken to by officers and subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result, Benjamin Laughlin, age 41, of Gananoque was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Driving while under suspension

On June 2, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 401 eastbound in Greater Napanee.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result, Marius Bujor, age 42, of Montreal was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

All accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date. Their licences were suspended for 90 days, and vehicles were impounded for seven days.
