Mobile blood donor clinic comes to Napanee Aug. 2

Beaver Staff

Looking to keep the momentum going from their successful May mobile blood donation clinic, Canadian Blood Services will return to Napanee Aug. 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Held at the Strathcona Paper Centre, donors can make appointments in advance at www.blood.ca or by calling 1-888-2-DONATE. All told from check in time to the 10 minute recovery, the process takes about an hour.

The timing of the event is important, as the long weekend is typically a time Canadian Blood services sees an increase demand for units. Summer months also tend to see a decrease in donations, which leads to a higher demand for donors to help top up their reserves. Donated blood also has a shelf life of no longer than 42 days. While O-Negative blood type is the most sought after due to its ability to be used for all patients, all blood types are needed and welcome during their mobile clinic.

Donors must be 17 years of age, in general good health and meet the requirements that are listed on the Canadian Blood Services website. Anyone who shows up to donate must bring with them a government issued ID or Canadian Blood services ID.
