Napanee’s Peewee Express fell 7-1 in their opening playoff game against the Chatsworth Grey Dodgers at the U14 Boy’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championships in Saskatoon, Sask.

Trailing 1-0 into the fourth, Napanee’s Derek Li singled home a run to knot the game. Napanee couldn’t find a way to cash in any of its other chances however, though they managed seven hits.

The Dodgers scored four in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pick up the victory.

Napanee came into Tuesday looking to continue their hot streak, having defeated the Prince Albert Astros 14-1 in Monday’s late game to wrap up round robin play with a 4-2 record.
Ty Kemp opened the scoring with a first inning triple, coming in to score on a passed ball. In the fourth they put the game away for good with a nine run outburst powered by Gavin Brooks, Jack Madden, Brandon Barker, Ethan Tombs and Kemp, who each drove in a run.

Tombs picked up the win with three innings of two hit ball while Ethan Sutcliffe closed out the mercy win with a scoreless fourth.

Earlier on Monday the Express, who are playing as Ontario’s top seed, took on the second seeded Dodgers. Napanee’s bats had trouble getting anything going against the Dodgers in this one as well, losing 4-0.

Napanee will play again this evening at 6:30 p.m.
