Lennox and Addington County General Hospital (LACGH) will officially flip the switch to activate their Siemens Magnetom SOLA 1.5T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine today, enhancing healthcare services for the community.

On March 11, the Magnetom SOLA 1.5T MRI, weighing over 4000 kilograms, was carefully maneuvered into the new diagnostic outpatient clinic space at the Lenadco Site of LACGH. Following installation, the exterior clinic wall and the interior wall to the MRI room was reconstructed and readied for use.

Wayne Coveyduck, President & CEO of Lennox and Addington County General Hospital, stated, “The installation of the MRI machine is a significant milestone in our strategic plan of keeping care close to the people in our community and enhancing the LACGH campus of care services. We appreciate the support from the Ministry of Health and the community in making this possible.”

This milestone was made possible through the operational funding provided by the Ministry of Health and the support of our community, who has already raised 40 per cent of the capital funds required for the project. Additionally, the project would not have been successful without the dedication and expertise of the individuals responsible for planning and constructing the MRI services and space, whose attention to detail has ensured the successful integration of this state-of-the-art technology and a patient-centric atmosphere.

Erin Brown, Vice President of Diagnostic Services, added, “the activation of the Siemens Magnetom SOLA 1.5T MRI machine marks the beginning of a new era in our diagnostic capabilities. With its cutting-edge technology, this machine will allow us to deliver precise and timely diagnoses, ultimately improving patient outcomes. Additionally, I am extremely proud of the work completed by both the clinical project team members and the design and construction team that readied the space in a short 8 months.”

AK Sharma, VP of Capital Planning Facilities Management & Support Services, expressed appreciation for the collaborative effort, stating, “our construction and project staff, working alongside our prime consultant, Sam Iser, and MRI vendor Siemens, as well as Shielding Contractor SDI, have demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill in bringing this project to fruition within the compressed schedule.”

The MRI machine was turned on today, March 21. Now that the magnet is on, it will always be on, until the time that the unit is decommissioned.

April 8 is the day that the first patient is scheduled for the first MRI exam to be completed at LACGH in Napanee Ontario.
