Golden Hawks swim team make waves in successful season

The Napanee District Secondary School Hawks Swim Team had another fantastic season.

On Feb. 14 the EOSSAA swim championships were held at Queen’s University. Highlights included Mia Gillam’s seventh place ribbon in the junior girl’s 50 meter breaststroke, a fifth place finish for Abby Szuch in the senior girls 100 m freestyle and a second place medal for Maddy Oster in the junior girls 100 m individual medley (IM).

Owen Googe won gold in his open level 100 m breaststroke, 100 m IM and 200 m IM.  This qualified him for two events at the OFSAA championships in Toronto on March 4.  He decided to concentrate on his IM events swimming amazing preliminary heats to make it to the ‘A’ finals in both. In those finals he placed seventh overall in the 200 IM and eight in the 100 IM.  These were incredible results considering the caliber of swimmers he was competing against.

The coaches Michelle Miller and Glen Oster would like to thank all the Hawks swimmers for their dedication and hard work this year and look forward to next season.
