With spring around the corner, construction and landscaping businesses in the Napanee area will have a variety of seasonal positions available.

In anticipation of this, Career Edge Napanee, along with municipal and regional partners, will be hosting an inaugural construction/landscaping hiring fair on April 7 from noon-3 p.m. at the Lafarge Banquet Hall in the Strathcona Paper Centre. The event is free for both employers and job-seekers, with Career Edge encouraging as many employers as possible to sign up as soon as possible.

The Town of Greater Napanee, Lennox and Addington County and the Centre for Workforce Development are partnering with Career Edge to make the hiring fair a success.

According to Job Developer Lisa Harrison, employers on the national and local level are having difficulty finding an adequate supply of employees. The hiring fair promises to be a tool for connecting those in need of work with those in dire need of workers.

“This is a trend not only in Napanee, but across the country. We are hoping to assist local employers to assist local employees,” said Harrison.

“In the spring, we’re typically inundated with requests from construction and landscaping firms to help them find staff,” said Harrison. “We hope this event will make that task easier for both employers and those looking for work.”

If successful, organizers such as Harrison hope to make this an annual event to include all sectors.

“If this hiring fair is as successful as anticipated, it’s our intention to see it grow,” she added.

To reserve a spot at the hiring fair, or for more information, employers in the construction and landscape sectors are urged to call either Lisa Harrison or Seth DuChene at Career Edge Napanee at 613-354-0425.
