Riding the strength of some battery power, the host Napanee Express are off to a 3-0 start at the U20 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship.

Napanee closed out the second day of action with a 4-2 win over the Hagersville Haldimand Heat on Wednesday evening. Pitcher Connor Brooks and catcher Joe Mick each drove in two runs to lead the offense. Brooks turned in a gem from the pitcher’s circle, allowing just a run in the second and one in the sixth while striking out 16. He also managed to pitch around three Express errors behind him, yielding just two hits. He outdueled the Heat’s Dale Schweyer, who also went the distance in the losing effort, striking out nine.

Mick and Ty Franklin each had two of Napanee’s eight hits.

Each team has now played three games at the tournament with Napanee and the Tavistock Athletics the only teams yet to suffer a loss.

Napanee’s next game will see them face off against Quebec tomorrow afternoon a 1 p.m. on the Richard Dickson diamond. Later that evening they’ll meet the aforementioned Athletics for a 7 p.m. first pitch.
