A late rally kept the Napanee Express unbeaten through two games at the U20 Men’s Fast Pitch Championships as they edged the Saskatoon Selects 4-3 at the Napanee Fairgrounds.

The Express got out to an early lead in the second when Joe Mick lifted a fly ball deep enough to score Tyler Franklin on a sac fly.

Express starter Robbie Barker clung to that slim lead through the fifth before the Selects figured him out, scoring three times in the inning. Connor Brooks took over with one out in the fourth and stopped the bleeding, recording the game’s final eight outs all via strike out. Barker also had eight punch-outs over his 4.1 innings.

The Express bats went to work in the bottom of the fifth, rallying to tie and then going ahead with a run in the sixth. Brooks closed out the 4-3 win in the seventh.
Saskatoon’s Coen Bear pitched all six innings for Saskatoon, striking out three along the way. Napanee had eight hits on the day while the Selects had two.

Napanee will be back on the field this evening at 7 p.m. to face the Hagersville Haldimand Heat on the Richard Dickson diamond.
