Close, but no first place finish for the Deseronto Bulldogs.

Despite leading for nearly the entire season, the ‘Dogs wound up a point shy of the top seed in the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League West Division. They were passed by the Gananoque Islanders, who won their Saturday tilt with the Smiths Falls Rideaus, giving them 31 points on the season, just one better than the Bulldogs, who were 15-5 on the season, good for 30 points.

The Bulldogs will still enjoy a first round bye, awaiting the winner of the one-game playoff between the Tweed Oil Kings and Barry’s Bay Wolves, which is set for Feb. 17. The successful club will advance to face the Bulldogs in a best-of-five playoff series.

The winner of that series will advance to the semifinals and then ultimately play for a trip to the championship series, both of which will be a best-of-five as well.
