Though it may be early in the EOSHL season, the Deseronto Bulldogs made a big statement with their 6-3 win over the Gananoque Islanders on Saturday night at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre.

The Bulldogs handed the two-time reigning West Division champion Islanders their first loss of the season, running their own win streak to three in the process.

Noah Brant’s hat trick accounted for half the Bulldogs’ offence while Joey Mayer chipped in with a pair. Former NHL’er Kris Newbury added one, his first as a Bulldog.

Newbury’s goal broke a 3-3 tie and ignited a string of three unanswered goals for the Dogs to close out the game. Bailey Maracle earned the win with 45 saves on the night.

Deseronto is now 3-1 on the season, sitting second in the West Division, just two points back of first place Smiths Falls, who is a perfect 4-0 thus far.

The Bulldogs will get an up close look at the division leaders in their next game, when they travel to Smiths Falls on Oct. 21. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.

On Oct. 28 the Bulldogs will again be on the road, travelling to Barry’s Bay to face the expansion Wolves. Puck drop for that game is 7 p.m.

After their two game road swing the Bulldogs return home on Nov. 4, when they’ll welcome the Wolves to wrap up a home-and-home. Game time at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre will be 6:30 p.m.
