Lennox and Addington OPP impounded this vehicle after officers say it was captured going 252 km/h on Hwy 41. Submitted photo.

An officer of the Lennox and Addington OPP stopped a vehicle for traveling 252km/hr on Highway 401 in Loyalist Township.

On Oct. 15 at approximately 7:13 a.m., an L&A County officer was parked stationary in the median on Highway 401 by Switzerville Road facing westbound running radar looking for speeders. The officer was only there for a few short minutes when he observed a vehicle traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed toward him. The officer activated the front radar of the police vehicle and obtained a speed of 252 km/hr. As police were closing the distance on the vehicle it could be seen swerving lane to lane passing other vehicles erratically. Police were able to catch up to the vehicle as it slowed down due to heavy traffic blocking the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped just east of County Road 6 without incident. The driver was arrested and placed in the back of the police vehicle. A search of the vehicle incidental to arrest found a small quantity of cannabis easily accessible to the driver in the centre console. The driver was released roadside with multiple Provincial offence charges.

As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old male, from Kingston, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Dive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
  • Careless Driving
  • Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Greater Napanee at a later date. The accused had his license suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
