The Friends of the Napanee River and Friends of the Salmon River are promising one dynamite of an online presentation on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.

Titled Dynamited, Damage or Destroyed: An explosive history of the Upper Napanee River (1840-1920) will be the second event in their online Winter Speaker Series.

Alex English, an avid local historian and researcher, will regale guests with explosive stories from yesteryear, when the Upper Napanee Watershed was being developed by local farmers, lumberjacks, mill owners, and some “interesting” landowners.

English has a habit of taking an interest in a subject and then turning it into a pastime. He has lived and worked on farms in this area since 1983. For the last 20 years, his home has been an old farm house beside the ghostly Carman Creek, an overlooked tributary of the Napanee River, where critters still come to hunt, gather, and build dams. He has spent a lot of time in the County Archives researching this topic, and guests won’t be disappointed in hearing his stories and exciting historical lore from yesteryear.

The Friends of the Napanee River team will also provide a recap of last year in a very brief Annual General Meeting.
