Cranley’s hat trick gives U18 Stars the win as they close in on first place

The Napanee U18 Stars edged the County 4-3 on the strength of Spencer Cranley’s hat trick in a game played in Wellington to move into second place in league standings with a win. It was a tight contest with the locals trailing three separate times before Cranley’s game winner with 101 seconds left on the clock. Zerod Haller had tied things at three late in the third to give the Stars a chance. They face Frontenac at the SPC Thursday at 9 p.m. looking for a share of first with Douro.

-The Napanee U15 Stars was the stronger team in a closely fought battle with Norwood, netting a 4-2 win. Wyatt Albright tipped Oliver Kimmett’s point shot seconds into the game, but their guests replied on the power play. Devon Robinson, left unattended in front, buried a Colton Lockridge pass. Still in the first, Ben Kerr tallied from in close. On the power-play, Luc Asselstine threaded the defence in the second frame to take control. Their guests would get one back in the third, but goalie Jackson Godfrey would close the door the rest of the way. Shots favoured the locals 35-16.

In Wellington, the boys were full measure in a 6-1 win over Prince Edward County. Albright was a one-man wrecking crew scoring four times. Kohen Cutler and Kerr added singles, while Carter Cork tended goal, preserving their 14-0 record, and they remain atop the Eastern Ontario League standings.

-Saturday, the Footbridge Farms U13 Napanee Stars shutout Gananoque 8-0. Maddux Hartwick would score the first of two, the winner, 83 seconds into the contest. Only 13 seconds later Liam Mulder would provide all the insurance they needed. Chase Castagnier, Declan McGarvey, Daniel Hough, Quinn McConnell, Ryder Bruce added to the total in another strong showing, outshooting their opponents 42-13. Bauer Deveaux made the necessary stops to preserve the shutout, and maintain their third place standing in the league.

Earlier, the U13 squad preyed on Prince Edward County at the SPC for an 8-1 victory. Bruce put them on the board 86 seconds in, for the first of three goals. Castagnier tallied the winner and added a second goal, also in the first period. Other goals in the rout were scored by Keegan York, Jacob Lyons, and McConnell.
