It was a rough weekend for the Deseronto Bulldogs as they were swept in a home-and-home series with the Tweed Oil Kings.

Playing as hosts on Saturday the Bulldogs fell 6-4 followed by a 5-3 defeat Sunday afternoon in Tweed.

Both contests saw the Bulldogs strike first, even going so far as to build a 3-1 lead in the first period of Saturday’s affair.

Michael Anson, Brett Maracle and Shamus Barr each scored for the home team.

Noah Brant scored in the opening seconds of the middle frame to give Deseronto a 4-2 lead. It would be all Tweed from there however as they reeled off four unanswered to take the 6-4 victory.

In Sunday’s matinee the Bulldogs again came out strong with Carter Thorton and Jonny Hill each notching a goal to give the visitors a 2-1 lead after the first.

Tweed responded with three unanswered in the second period to take a 4-2 advantage.

William Harrison brought the ‘Dogs to within one with a goal at the in the opening five minutes of the final period, but that was as close as they’d get however and Tweed tacked on an insurance goal to hold on for the 5-3 win and complete the sweep.

The pair of losses drop Deseronto to 6-8 on the season and down to fifth in the six team Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League West Division. They’re six points back of first place Gananoque. Those Islanders happen to be their next opponent as the Bulldogs hit the road Dec. 23 for their final game of 2022. They’re back in action on Jan. 7 when they face the Frontenac Phantoms on the road. Their next home game won’t be until Jan. 21 when they host the Oil Kings, the start of three home dates to close out the regular season, the final game set for Feb. 11.
