The Deseronto Bulldogs did a little ghost busting on Saturday night, defeating the Frontenac Phantoms 9-5 in Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League action at the Deseronto Community Rec Centre.

After coughing up the first goal of the game to the Phantoms’ Nicholas Grona just 22 seconds into the game, the Bulldogs reeled off four straight of their own. Shamus Barr, Joey Mayer, Jordan Cannons and Owen Dever each tallied for the home team. The Phantoms did get one back in the final two minutes to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 4-2 at the first intermission.

Deseronto kept up the pressure in the middle frame as Noah Brant, Griffen Conger and Luigi Martone all found the back of the net. Frontenac’s Nathan Much and Zack Masterson responded, the second of three on the night for Masterson. He completed his hat trick early in the third to pull his team to within two goals of the ‘Dogs.

Deseronto was able to close it from there as Barr and Mayer each scored in the final 5:08 of the game.

Corey Kuypers picked up the win, turning away 29 of 34 shots faced while Jake Kment took the loss, allowing nine goals on 33 shots.

The victory evens the Bulldogs’ record to 3-3 on the season, catapulting them into fourth place in the EOSHL West division. Deseronto remains unbeaten at home in three games while still searching for their first road victory.

They’ll look to buck that trend when they hit the road on Saturday to face the Arnprior Rivermen. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. The Rivermen are 2-3-1 on the season, just one point back of Deseronto in the standings.
Following that game the ‘Dogs are on the road again Nov. 12 when they travel to Tweed to face the Oil Kings at 1 p.m.
They’ll return home after their two game road swing on Nov. 19 to host the Rivermen at the Deseronto Rec Centre, starting at 6:30 p.m.
