Addressing Greater Napanee’s garbage can budget concerns

I am writing to express my concern over the proposed $28,000 budget for the replacement of all downtown garbage cans. While I understand the need to address weathered and rusted cans, I believe there are more community-centric and budget-friendly alternatives.

Consider involving local high school art classes in an annual project to paint and rejuvenate the existing cans. This not only preserves funds but also adds a touch of community engagement to the beautification process. Additionally, a quick online search reveals the availability of used metal bins for as low as $10 each. Repurposing these bins and encouraging creative decorations could offer a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution without resorting to a full replacement.

I urge the Township Council to explore more community-involved and financially prudent approaches before making a final decision on downtown garbage cans. It is crucial to engage with residents to ensure that decisions align with the community’s needs and preferences.

Sincerely,
Amber Conlon
