Greater Napanee Emergency Services crews from all three stations attended over 20 calls for service in a span of four hours as high winds howled through the area on Saturday. A construction site on Ginger Street was among the hardest hit.

The same could be said for Loyalist Fire as well as they continue to deal with the aftermath of the storm this morning.

“Emergency services crews remain on scene of downed wires with a fire,” Loyalist Fire tweeted at 9 a.m. on Sunday. “Multiple calls throughout the evening and night have all been resolved. Some areas still have no power. Public Works crews are out clearing trees from roadways and sidewalks. Watch for downed wires.”

An uprooted 65 foot tall Spruce tree at Moscow United Church Cemetery was among the many trees downed by Saturday’s wind storm. One monument was toppled but not damaged and will be reset on a new base in the Spring. Due to Divine Intervention, three other monuments were unscathed even though they were in the direct path of the fallen tree. Fortunately the branches of the tree landed around the stones and actually held the trunk of the tree high up enough to prevent any severe damage. Photo by Susan Farber.
