United Way KFLA to mark 211 day on Saturday

United Way of KFLA is using Saturday’s date of 2/11 to help raise awareness for its 211 service.

211 is helpline available by phone, chat or online search that helps residents across Canada navigate the complex network of government, health, community and social services quickly and easily, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with interpretation in over 150 languages.

211 launched in Kingston and the surrounding area in 2010. Locally funded by the United Way of KFL&A and the City of Kingston, 211 helps residents in Kingston and the counties of Frontenac and Lennox & Addington connect with the right services at the right time, providing an important gateway to community, social, non-clinical health, and related government services.

“The 211 service helps residents in our communities connect with social programs, government support, and other services by helping them find the right service at the right time,” said Bhavana Varma, President and CEO of United Way KFL&A. “211 is a lifeline for challenging life situations Ontario residents may experience and provides information about where to turn.”

To help celebrate 211 Day, buildings across Canada are turning red on Feb. 11, including Kingston City Hall and Market Square.

Residents through KFL&A are urged  to make the right call if they want or need non-emergency help by dialing 2-1-1 or visiting www.211ontario.ca.

United Way Kingston Frontenac Lennox & Addington works closely with the community to ensure that people have the opportunity to reach their full potential and live with hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging. This vision is realized by building on deep-rooted local community knowledge and relationships to empower people to make an impact.

The United Way raises funds for programs that support immediate needs while also addressing root causes of issues that impact people locally. Led by volunteers, driven by a small professional staff team, the United Way KFL&A provides opportunities for people to get involved, support people in need, and help to tackle issues they care about.
