U19 Express men finish preliminary round at 5-3

Napanee AFW Construction Express are 5-3 through the preliminary round of the U19 Canadian Fast Pitch Championship in Owen Sound.

That places them fifth in the 12 team field heading into the playoffs, which run Saturday and Sunday.

Napanee wrapped up the preliminary round with a 10-2 loss to the Saskatchewan Delisle Pride. After winning their first two games the Express altenated losses and wins to finish the opening round.

Robbie Barker and Tucker Firth each had six RBI to lead the team, with Firth also connecting on two home runs. Brendan Hagerman and Brock Fencott each drove in five while Andrew Vanboekel and Connor Brooks knocked in four each. Hagerman and Brooks each had a team high 11 hits. 

From the pitcher’s circle Brooks was 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA, Vanboekel 2-2 with a 3.17 ERA while Tom Hanna was 1-1 with a 3.50 ERA. 

The Express will await their playoff opponent following the conclusion of the rest of the preliminary round.
