Two people suffered life-threatening injuries while another was seriously injured following a three vehicle collision on Hwy 41 near Frizzell Road in Stone Mills on Wednesday.

Stone Mills Fire Department and Greater Napanee Emergency Services responded to the call along with Lennox and Addington OPP and EMS just after 3 p.m.

According to the OPP, a white pick-up truck was traveling southbound on County Road 41 and collided with a north bound truck hauling a trailer.  The white pick-up truck then collided with a second northbound grey pick-up truck head on. The vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane.

The driver of the southbound pick-up truck was transported to hospital by EMS and treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the grey pick-up truck was transported to hospital by EMS with serious life threatening injuries. The passenger in the grey pick-up truck was transported to hospital by Air Ornge with serious life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck hauling the trailer was uninjured.

“The one vehicle we had to extricate the two patients out of that and then the other vehicle, they were able to get out without any extrication,” said Stone Mills Fire Department deputy fire chief James Richmond. “They still had to be helped out, but there was no heavy extraction involved. They were more stable than the other two.”

One removed from the vehicle EMS transported one person with life-threatening injuries to the parking lot of Roblin’s Wesleyan Church where they were picked up by helicopter.

“Helicopters have landed there a number of times in the past and we knew that so that’s why we chose that location because it’s a known spot that’s a good wide open space, away from traffic,” said Richmond. “It’s a good safe space for them to land.”

The roadway was closed while OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) team attended the scene and the road remained closed until 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday.  The investigation remains ongoing.

Any person with information regarding the investigation can contact the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at 1-888-310-1122.
