Two people are recovering from injuries sustained in an all-terrain vehicle accident on Canada Day.
At around 8:30 p.m., officers with the Napanee OPP and the Tyendinaga Police Service responded to a report of an ATV accident on Old Highway 2 near Shannonville.
Officers arrived on scene with paramedics. The female driver and passenger were both transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police said that neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators attended the scene as the ATV had rolled and trapped the female driver underneath; the passenger was able to free her prior to police arrival.
No charges have been laid; the investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
RIDE program arrest
A Canada Day RIDE program netted one suspected impaired driver.
Napanee OPP officers were conducting the RIDE program on County Road 1 in Greater Napanee at around 1:30 p.m. when a Dodge Caravan went through the checkpoint.
The male driver spoke to police and officers suspected he had been drinking. The OPP say that the male was given a roadside screening device, which he failed. The driver was then transported to Napanee detachment to provide samples of his breath.
The driver was charged with driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The driver also had his licence suspended, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused was released on a promise to appear, with his first court appearance scheduled at provincial court in Napanee on July 11.
