Jan White of the Alzheimer Society of KFLA will be the guest speaker at the next installment of Trinity United Church’s healthy living series, Sept. 27 from 2-4 p.m.

The free information session will cover a wide range of topics, providing insight on how to manage Alzheimer’s as well as outlining some of the resources available.

“So many of us have loved ones or family affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia,” said Sue Walden of the Trinity Presents organizing committee. “The Alzheimer’s Society is great at providing education and support and resources. We have Jan White from the Alzheimer’s Society for this session just for some in-depth discussion for dealing with Alzheimer’s, dementia, how to manage it, where to find the resources, triggers, just a fulsome discussion how to begin to cope with the disease.”

The session will be valuable to family members who are caring for someone with Alzheimer’s, whether it’s early stage or advanced.

“Education and awareness is so important because if you know early, you’re not going to change the outcome, but at least you’re in the best position to get support before it’s too late,” said Walden.

Trinity had been planning to hold an Alzheimer’s information session for several years now, but had to put it off during the pandemic.

Admission is free, but donations will gladly be accepted as the Alzheimer Society of KFLA will be hosting a coffee break fundraiser during the event, with coffee and snacks.

The information session is part of the ongoing Trinity Presents series, which includes two events a year, one an information session, the other a live concert. Once inside, guests will have a chance to explore the century old building.

“We look at it as a really nice reaching out to the community and bringing them in and learn something informative and timely along the way,” Walden said of the healthy living session.

Trinity United is located at 25 Bridge St. E in Napanee.
