The following is a statement from Colonel Ryan Deming, Commander of 8 Wing and Canadian Forces Base Trenton
This year, in accordance with recommendations from local health authorities, Remembrance Day will look much different. The annual Remembrance Day Parades have been cancelled. However, we will nevertheless honour all those who fought for our freedom. We will pay our respects while maintaining the strictest safety measures for the health of our members, their families and our communities.
On Nov. 11th, a formation of CC-130J Hercules aircraft from 436 Transport Squadron will conduct a flyby along the Highway of Heroes, followed by multiple local cenotaphs to honour our brave warriors who sacrificed their lives to protect Canadian values.
There will also be flypasts of local communities from the following aircraft: Two CH-146 Griffon Helicopter and one CC-130H Hercules aircraft from 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron, a CT-150 Polaris from 437 Transport Squadron, and a formation of CF-18 Hornets from 3 Wing Bagotville. The CF-18 Hornets and CT-150 Polaris will fly no lower than 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle in their path, during these flights. The remaining aircraft will fly no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle in their path, during these flights. Flybys by the Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft are carefully planned, closely controlled, and deliberately executed for public safety and are dependent upon weather.
This year instead of gathering for a ceremony, we encourage you to stay home and take a moment at 11:00 a.m. to stand proudly on your front step and salute the brave Canadians who fought selflessly to achieve peace.
Every year on Remembrance Day, we honour the service and sacrifice of Canadian Armed Forces Veterans who served their country at home and abroad. Regardless of where or when, our veterans fought to maintain the freedoms we enjoy today, to bring peace and security around the world, and to ensure a better future for our children and grandchildren.
This is our history, and it is our responsibility to remember the achievements and sacrifices of all our veterans, regardless of race or gender. We must pass on their legacy and keep the torch of remembrance burning for future generations. I am incredibly proud of the members of 8 Wing and Canadian Forces Base Trenton who continue to demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism and dedication to service before self.
