A 33 year-old Quebec resident is in custody facing a host of charges and is awaiting a bail hearing this afternoon after being arrested during a traffic stop in the evening of March 7.
Just before 10:30 p.m. on Saturday an Lennox and Addington OPP officer was conducting radar speed enforcement on Hwy 401 westbound in the Town of Greater Napanee.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on a westbound vehicle from Quebec. The investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of a large quantity of illegal drugs including cocaine, morphine and methamphetamine along with thousands of dollars in cash. As well, the driver was found in possession of two loaded handguns, at least one of which is believed to have been stolen in the United States.
The driver of the vehicle, a resident of Pierrefonds, Que., was arrested at the scene and has been charged with:
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm (two counts);
- Possession of prohibited device or ammunition (three counts);
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm (two counts);
- Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order (two counts);
- Carrying a concealed weapon (two counts);
- Possession of the proceeds of crime; and
- Possession of stolen property under $5,000
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (seven counts)
- Possession of a Schedule 4 substance for the purpose of trafficking (two counts)
- Stunt driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused remains in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee for a bail hearing this afternoon.
