Three people charged in string of shoplifting occurrences in Napanee and Amherstview, nearly 1,500 stolen gift cards recovered

The Lennox and Addington OPP has charged three people with theft and fraud related offences after multiple shoplifting occurrences.

On June 3, just before 7:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a business on Alkenbrack Street in Greater Napanee for a report that three individuals had shoplifted and were leaving the scene in a vehicle.

Officers responded and located a vehicle matching the description provided and conducted a traffic stop.

The investigation determined that the individuals were linked to a previous shoplifting occurrence earlier in the day at a business on Sherwood Avenue in Amherstview.

A search of the vehicle recovered nearly 1,500 stolen gift cards. A quantity of Canadian currency was also seized.

As a result, Jianying He, age 46, Hongfa Lin, age 49, and Hong Quen Lin, age 59, all of Toronto, were arrested and charged with:

  • Theft Over $5,000 – shoplifting – two counts
  • Fraud over $5,000 – two counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Hongfa Lin was additionally charged with one count of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The investigation is on-going.

All accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
