Thefts from vehicles prompt OPP advisory

Beaver Staff

The Napanee OPP are issuing a warning after receiving several reports of thefts from unlocked vehicles since Aug. 3.

Among those items taken include a purse, wallets, watches, sunglasses and loose change, the police said.

The OPP say they would like to remind the public that, by simply securing your vehicle and placing valuables out of sight, you are making it far more difficult for criminals to steal any items within. Vehicle owners can do simple things to decrease the risk of thefts such as never leaving a running vehicle unattended; locking your vehicle and pocketing the keys; parking in well-lit areas at night; never leaving valuables in plain view; and reporting any suspicious activity or persons immediately to the police.

Anyone with any information or may have seen anything suspicious is asked to contact the Napanee OPP at 613-354-3369 or, should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

The OPP say that the key to protecting your vehicle is in your hands — keep yourself from becoming an easy target by properly securing your vehicle. For additional information go to: OPP.ca and search Lock It or Lose It.
