An Ottawa man is facing multiple charges after allegedly travelling double the speed limit on Highway 401.
On Monday at 10:25 p.m., officers with the Napanee OPP received a report of a vehicle travelling in excess of 200 kilometres per hour and weaving in and out of traffic. The OPP conducted traffic enforcement and stopped a grey Dodge Durango that was travelling at 200 km/h in the posted 100 km/h zone in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in Tyendinaga Township.
The OPP say the driver, a 33-year-old from Ottawa, was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code and stunt driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He also had his vehicle seized for seven days, and was issued a seven-day driver’s licence suspension.
The accused was released on an appearance notice with the first court appearance scheduled for Oct. 17 in provincial court in Napanee.
Two weeks ago, a Quebec man was charged with stunt driving after being clocked travelling 212 km/h on Hwy. 401 near Napanee.
