A women’s pick-up soccer league will be starting up June 4 in Tamworth for players 16 and older.

Games will run Tuesday nights from 7-8 p.m. on the Tamworth soccer field located behind the fire hall. Cost will be $25 per person.

Organizer Barbara Esposito is hoping to revive a soccer league for women looking to get active and have a little fun while being social.

“I just thought it would be something great to bring back into the community and give it a go and see what happens,” said Esposito, who recalled playing in a similar league some 20 years earlier. “I think what will happen this year it will be all about what the interest is, what the commitment level is and then we can go from there and figure out the fine details.”

For now she’s just gauging interest to see how many fellow players would be interested in a weekly pick-up game.

“If we have enough people we could do a team sort of thing and do it multiple nights, but at this point and not knowing the area super well as to how many people we’ll get out, it’ll be more of a pick up and see if we can make it at least two teams on the field and go with some pretty good level soccer,” said Esposito. “Then I’m hoping that could lead into years where we have a bunch of teams going. That would be awesome.”

For now the plan is to run weekly games into September, perhaps a bit later in the year if there’s enough interest.

Shin guards will be mandatory, cleats are optional.
