The Tamworth & District Lions Club has been working hard to ensure local students and schools have all of the necessary supplies when they return to class in September.

The Club, in conjunction with New Legacy Centre in Tamworth, put out requests for names of students whose families needed a helping hand in purchasing school supplies. Eight students from Kindergarten to Grade 11 then received new knapsacks, lunchbox, pencil case, and all the necessary supplies for school. The Club made the presentation of knapsacks to Valerie Lynds of New Legacy Centre, to be distributed to the local students.

The Club also purchased totes, and supplies for the three schools within its catchment area: Tamworth Public, Enterprise Public and St. Patrick’s School in Erinsville. The totes were filled with supplies to help replace the items sent home with students when the pandemic first started. The Club also provided craft supplies and hand sanitizers for the schools.

Finally, club president Al Gordon presented a cheque in the amount of $2,000 to the Salvation Army Napanee.  Abby Mills Director of Community Ministries accepted the cheque on behalf of the Salvation Army. The donation was made to support the Salvation Army’s recent request for assistance to aid local families in obtaining all of the necessary school supplies for their children. As COVID has financially impacted many in our community, there was a great need for assistance this year.
