Suspect nabbed in daytime B&E

A Napanee resident was arrested and taken into custody following a daylight break-and-enter on Friday morning.

At 9 a.m., the Napanee OPP were called to a residence to investigate a theft. According to the police, the homeowner had left her home to drop children off at school when she returned home to find a person had gained entry into her residence. She located shoes that didn’t belong to her family in her house and called police.

The suspect fled the home and was located a short distance from the home by the police. The area was searched by the OPP Canine Unit. Personal belongings of the thief were located.

The accused, a 20-year-old man from Napanee, has been charged with breaking and entering into a dwelling house, theft under $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. He is being held for bail court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee.

The OPP are reminding local residents to lock the doors to their home, even if just for a few minutes.
