Suspect attempts to flee police on 401, crashes into snow bank

On Jan. 16 just before 2 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP responded to a report of erratic driving on highway 401 eastbound near Deseronto Road.

Officers located the vehicle, observed it being driven in a dangerous manner and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle fled from the officers. Police followed at a distance and observed the vehicle attempt to exit at County Road 4 in Stone Mills Township. The vehicle left the roadway and collided with road signs, coming to rest in a snow bank. Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen to York Regional Police earlier on in the day.

The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for processing.

A 57-year-old of Montreal has been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Flight from police
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Race a motor vehicle – excessive speed

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Jan. 18.

-On Jan. 16 at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on a all-terrain vehicle on Dowdle Road in Stone Mills Township.

Police located the vehicle and the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for processing.

As a result of the investigation L&A County OPP have charged a 57-year-old of Stone Mills Township contrary to the criminal code with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit
  • Operating a vehicle while prohibited

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on March 23. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
